Fujitsu Lifebook AH532 15.6" Notebook PC - FPCR34711 Review

I bought one 2 weeks ago. Specs are fantastic, lots of great features. Then I found out only 1 cd/dvd will boot! On all my laptops I run TrueCrypt. That will not install on this ah532 as the BIOS gives me a Secure Boot error. Part of the TC install process is to burn a cd & boot from it. BIOS refuses to boot that cd. I also usually run Acronis True Image 2013 to backup my C partition, which runs fine. Problem is I can't boot the recovery cd as Secure Boot doesn't allow it. Other programs I use, memtest86, bootable linux will not boot. In order to encrypt my C drive I figured I would install Win 8 Pro (which supports BitLocker). Guess what, that Microsoft product won't boot either!

I've talked to Fujitsu management regarding relaxing the BIOS to allow non-signature certification after I temporarily turn Secure Boot for the next optical disk boot. They have lots of complaints, so may come out with a less restrictive BIOS, but there are no immediate plans.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a Win 8 laptop with lots of great features, this machine may be the one. If you're a geek and ever want to boot something outside of the Fujitsu recovery DVD, this is NOT the machine for you.

12/29/2012 Update
Finally spoke to a knowledgeable Fujitsu tech support guy about this Secure Boot issue of mine. Guy walked me thru the procedure of getting rid of Secure Boot. Now, I can boot any media I want! I'll raise the stars from 2 to 4. Actually a great machine, I would have given it 5 stars if I didn't need to go thru Hel* resolving this issue.

Here is a summary of how its done: Basically, get into BIOS, assign a short Supervisor Password. Then go into "Security Tab" under "Secure Boot Configurations" set "Secure Boot Option" to "Disabled". Then on the "Advanced" tab set "CSM" to Enabled. Then removed password.
