I gave this printer to my wife last year (2010) for her birthday right before Christmas when she asked for a printer so she could display family pics for the holidays. We've owned several dedicated photo printers over the years that have worked fine at first, but clogged up and become paperweights after not being used for a few months. The fact is that photo printers like these are used extensively (at least in our family) in spurts and then not used at all for quite awhile until she gets the photo bug again or until we have company coming to visit. I looked for a printer that would not only be easy to use and print excellent quality photos, but would also be reliable after sitting unused for awhile. This printer is a WINNER! She used it extensively last year in December and January and a bit during the summer, but the real story for us is the week of intensive printing last week!! When we pulled it out of the cabinet, we were skeptical that it would perform as well as last year, but were even able to print a few decent pics with the old cartridge before it ran out. Once we installed a new cartridge - which, btw, was available locally as well as on Amazon - the photos were as crisp and colorful as last year when it was new!
