The ES424X6+BS supports SATA or SAS 6 GBps hard drives or SSD and is backward compatible to 3 GBps SAS & SATA hard drives. I have two of these boxes, love the styling, love the milling, seem to work great, one's in a rack (gear was included, just had to remove a couple screws to get it to rail out) and one sits on a table, so these can go either way.

ATTN: There is one glitch (with *both*): when I hot swapped bay 12, the whole backplane went red (so have a backup when hot swapping a bay near there, or just turn off the box). You can mark all the drives clean, and erase them, and setup your raid again (as if there was nothing wrong), but it's a giant waste of time (so don't skimp on turning off the box when adding a drive to that bay!). If you lightly tap the thing, you'll be fine, even pushing on the other bays, just pushing on that bay 12, which you kinda have to do when clicking the door shut, gets you into trouble.

Otherwise, I really do love these boxes (and going to buy a third, as one of the boxes is full, so I want to daisy chain it with the same vendor/model enclosure to grow the space--just won't be hot adding to bay 12!). Note: I use 3TB WD Red (as I liked that they were cheap and server class green drives, albeit they state the drives are for 1-4 bay NAS boxes, but they work great for me in these 24 bay SAS enclosures; i.e. if you have the more money, go with WD SE (meant for larger bay enclosures--totally unsure if it's propaganda), and of course, WD is now putting out 4TB models (for both Red and Se), as you kinda have to stick with the same drive for the same volume (but you can change your drive if you're willing to setup another volume).
