Please pardon this review since it is on the Asus X44H 4GB Memory - 320GB Hard Drive - Brown, not 500gb as in the above listing which could explain the price point difference I paid vs. this listing. Everything else appears the same.

My Asus X44H 4GB Memory - 320GB Hard Drive - Brown is 2 months old now and overall very pleased with the product. The one star deduction is for the Asus Live Update Utility Software explained below.

I bought the X44H at Bestbuy on 12/18/11. It was advertised for $399 then on the 25th they marked it down to $349 On 12/28/2011 I went back to Bestbuy, with my receipt and ready for a fight. Without a problem or complaint, Bestbuy gave me the difference back. I was very surprised, shocked and pleased. Bestbuy still sells this product at $399 as of the time of this review, 2/21/2012.

PROS:
1) Excellent price point considering all the bells and whistles you get.
2) I get about 3 hour battery life, surfing the net and watching DVDs.

CONS:

The Real Complaint I have about this unit is the Asus Live Update Utility. "DO NOT USE IT". After running the utility and rebooting the computer numerous times, I lost my wireless, power management system and sound. I corrected it by doing a restore from 2 days earlier when I did the Windows update flawlessly. So I decided to no longer to use the Asus Live Update for anything and uninstalled the program from my unit.

The following CONS are more inconvenience than a CON:

1) There are only 2 USB ports (2.0 on the right and 3.0 on the left).
2) The headphone/mic plugs are in the front of the unit. So when you are in bed watching a movie, with your headsets on and you bend your knees, you get stuck in the stomach by the plug.
3) No DVD player software. You can play movies using your Windows Media Player. I also downloaded the free Media Player "VLC Media Player". It has a great utility that allows you to make your own digital copy of the DVDs you own. It's real cool, however it's drawback is that it records at the rate you watch so a 2 hour movie takes 2 hours to record.

This new computer was a replacement for my 6 year old Compac laptop that I paid $799 for. At the time $799 got you a bottom of the line computer. (It was still functioning fine but it was time to upgrade, plus I wanted a new toy).
