I paid only $400, which was good value since this projector is only 720p (Native 1280x800) and can't actually do 3D in HD (I heard on the internet someone got it working using a VGA connection to their PC but not HDMI - the manual suggests using the S-Video connection! Yeah sure BenQ, I want to watch 3D in fuzzy low definition! Bit of false advertising really). It's also pretty loud compared to most projectors these days.

But I didn't buy it for 3D. Overall it's still better for movies and games than my 2011 $800 1080p 50" plasma. 1280x800 is HD enough, even at 80", and games run faster at 720p than at 1080p.

Colours and contrast are gorgeous compared to any big-screen LCD under $1500, though not quite as vibrant as my plasma, of course. Black levels a bit gray.

Overall I'm happy, but wouldn't have paid any more. There are better options in the $500 range.
