I use these Dahua Vertical NVRs with the outdoor Dahua cameras HD 720P Network IP Dome IR Outdoor security camera Night Vision H.264 CCTV ONVIF SD POE for residential and small commercial installations. The ONVIF standard makes these practically plug and play with the Dahua and other ONVIF-compliant cameras and the video quality is much better than what you'd have by using dedicated computers with Blue Iris Pro. The difference is the frame rate. Using a computer with Blue Iris is like watching slow-motion, missing 3 out of 5 frames. Cars and people passing by suddenly appear and disappear. Using this NVR is like watching TV: Everything streams smoothly.
Another benefit of this NVR is storage capacity. You could put a pair of 3TB hard drives in it. I use these: WD Red 3 TB NAS Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, SATA III, 64 MB Cache - WD30EFRX Those silver handles on the front are like drawers for the hard drives, making them easy to replace or upgrade.
The entire package is surprisingly small and would easily go unnoticed on a bookshelf or in a utility room. It's basically a small linux computer dedicated to video capture with video and USB ports for a monitor, mouse - even other external HDs or thumb drives.
If you get the model that doesn't have POE (power over ethernet to power up the cameras), you'll want to get a POE switch like this one: TP-LINK TL-SF1008P 10/100Mbps 8-port Desktop PoE Switch, 4 POE ports, IEEE 802.3af, 53W
