Ok, if you're looking at this, you're probably aware of the benefits and shortcomings of this motherboard. For those who aren't aware, here's some info:
Pro:
1. It's rock solid, as long as you use the right memory.
2. The IPMI interface allows you to remotely control it. I run it headless, and by RDP into my desktop PC, I can run the Supermicro software and reboot the server.
3. The components are very standardized, and most OSs will handle it quite well. I have no issues with ESXi 5.1
4. This is a *server* board, not an *overclocker whizbang* board. It's designed to be rock solid stable at the default settings, and overclockers need not apply.
Cons:
1. Choose your CPU carefully, as it will determine which memory type you can use. Honestly, this is probably the most memory-type limited motherboard I've seen for ages. Do a google search for X8SIL-F Memory and you'll find lots of discussion about what works and what doesn't.
2. If you're using 16GB or less of memory, you'll get the rated memory speed. If you want to use 32GB, the memory will be automatically derated to 800MHz. You don't believe me? Download the manual from Supermicro and look at the bottom of page 2-11.

Because I was so anal about researching this motherboard, I ended up with the right memory (KVR1333D3Q8R9S/8G) to fill it to 32GB. The timing for this Amazon reminder to do a review was quite appropriate, as I'm currently running Memtest to see which of the 4 DIMMs is bad. Running Memtest with all 4 sticks installed resulted in lots of memory failures at about 40% complete. The first individual stick tested passed fine, and the second stick is about 50% completed with no errors.
Update on memory: The system would lock up about once per week using the first 2 sticks or with all 4 sticks of memory, but is perfectly stable with only the last 2 sticks I bought. Note that these sticks all have the same part number, but different manufacturer lot and date codes. So, I'll have to swap out the bad memory sticks. Other than the memory issue, no problems with the motherboard.

Honestly, I probably would have bought one of the newer x9 series boards but I got the Xeon 3440 chip for free from work. I'm knocking off 1 star for the finicky memory issues.
