External 4U 24 Bay SAS/SATA Expander JBOD Enclosure DS-24E Review

At first I was skeptical about this device as it almost seemed to cheap to be real. We are currently using three of these devices as Enterprise storage units connected to LSI Hardware RAID Cards (9280-8e) on Windows Server 2008 and they perform absolutely beautifully. We populate these units with 48TB of storage (24 x 2TB) split into three RAID 6 configurations.

The SAS expander technology that allows a single SAS connector to drive all 24 drives works as promised and the unit is well built and looks the part. Word of warning, the fans the unit ships with are LOUD! We took them out and replaced them with units from Noctua (NF-P12) which will blow your mind! (excuse the pun). These units are DEAD quiet and output only 25% less airflow than the units noisy built in ones. All drives are still kept below 45degrees Celsius which is well within operating limits of drives.

For any avid media heads or companies that require large storage of enterprise level without wanting to pay enterprise class prices, look no further.
