I've owned the G4 for about three months now and have published nearly 1,000 CDs and 200 DVDs. The set-up and instructions are fairly straightforward. I was able to install the software via a Dell laptop and begin printing a CD within 30 minutes. The reason I'm using a laptop is that I wanted to be able to take the G4 with me for publishing on-location. Be prepared to waste several discs while you are learning, but it didn't take long to get up to full speed.

WORD OF CAUTION #1! For some reason, laptops in general (and mine is a dual processor) lacks 'something' that requires Microboards Tech Support to reconfigure. I was on the phone with them for less than 10 minutes, and they configured my laptop while I watched and had me up and running!

Another word about Microboards Tech Support. These guys have a direct line and are easy to reach. The longest I was on hold was for 5 minutes. They communicate with you and will help you solve any problem via phone or e-mail. I can't praise them enough!

The software also includes SureThing Label, but it's a special version for Microboards CD/DVD Publishing. However, I've been using SureThing for over 10 years and I can prep the label artwork in another computer and save it as a .jpeg to import into the Microboards PrintWrite program.

I will give the Microboards' PrintWrite software program 4 STARS. It's a bit clunky, but it does work pretty well. You're given options to publish a DVD or CD, copy only or print only. When publishing, you put the CD or DVD Master in the drive of your computer, select the artwork for the label, select the number of copies and select Start. The Master will copy to a temp file (which CAN'T be saved...arrrgh!) and then all the copies are made from this temp file and printed. The problem is, if you need to make additional copies later, you have to go through the temp copying process all over again.

HOWEVER...it is slick to watch this machine work! Once the first disc is finished burning, it goes to the printer and is printing while the second disc is burning, etc. Love the robotic animation!

WORD OF CAUTION #2! Select top quality discs on which to print on the G4. These are all available through Amazon. The best disc recommended by Microboards (at .33 cents each) are the Taiyo Yuden/JVC CD and DVD discs. They run pretty much trouble-free. I've had ZERO rejection using this media. I've also tried Verbatim and Kodak. The Kodak are my second favorite (at .29 cents each). They have a smoother edge, but static causes them to stick together occasionally I and get about 4 rejects per hundred. Verbatim (at .25 cents each) have a rigid edge and the static problem and I get about 5 rejects per hundred. All of the discs, whether hub or full disc printing, have crisp images and edge to edge full color printing unlike that of gloss or matte paper labels.

INK USAGE IS NOT A FACTOR! I've printed nearly 1,200 discs thus far. I have not changed the ink yet! Granted, the majority of printing was not full coverage, but as of this writing, my color ink cartridge still has 19% and the black cartridge is at 50%!

WORD OF CAUTION #3! Do not use ink refills. Only use the authentic Microboards ink, which is made by HP and available on Amazon. I had a horrible experience with another brand of publisher using refills, which ruined the printer beyond repair! Microboards ink is not expensive compared to the yield you get.

Overall I'm very happy with the G4 and Microboards Tech Support. I understand there is a newer version of the PrintWrite software in the works. Meanwhile the humming you hear in the background is the G4!
